The language

The official language of Portugal is Portuguese. Like French, Italian, Spanish and Romanian, Portuguese is a romance language derived from Latin.

Portuguese is spoken worldwide by 200 million people and is the seventh most spoken language in the world.

English is the second language in most schools in Portugal. Except for the more remote areas the language barrier is not a problem.

In my experience it's very helpful to learn a few Portuguese words and phrases. Any attempt to speak the language will be well-received.

Image Manchester fans losing patience with Ronaldo

April 11, 2009

Goals are forgotten over discipline issue

Gone are the times in which Ronaldo was an idol consensus among supporters of Manchester United. He who was considered the best player on the planet in 2008 continues with vein ballers with shirt number 7 - but not enough for fans of the 'red devils'. The growing field and in displicência endless soap opera of the transfer to Real Madrid fans leave angry.
