Portugal is one of the best tourist attractions Europe has to offer. It combines old world charm and modern amenities to cater every tourist’s fancy. Portugal’s main draw is its historical and religious sites. The country is also famous for their world class products and souvenirs such as Port wines, laces and porcelain products. The town of Sintra prides itself as one of the UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. It is also the home of expert artist specializing in pottery and lace making. The town has lots of shops selling pottery and other ceramic products such as tea sets and table wares, but the most famous among Sintra’s pottery is their decorative tiles. Some of the best shops to visit are those adjacent to the Praca de Republica. Another famous Sintra souvenir are lace-based products such as linens, table cloths, hand towels and aprons.

 

Portuguese wines are also one of the best. Port wines also known as Porto wines and they are always high on demand. They are great tasting wines but are more affordable than their counterparts that came from Italy or France. You can buy Portuguese wines direct from their sources once you participate on a Porto winery tour. Many shops also sell different kinds of Port wines. If you are short in time, there is a good Porto wine shop inside the Porto Airport.

If flea markets are your thing, it is best to head out to Lisbon’s Feira da Ladra or what is popularly called “Thieve’s Market”. This very dynamic market is just north of the of the National Pantheon and opens twice a week, every Tuesdays and Saturdays, from 7 am to 6 pm. Almost everything is sold in the flea market such as the usual tourist souvenirs, antiques, local delicacies and clothes.

For a gastronomic shopping, head out to Lisbon’s Mercado da Ribeira. It is the most popular market to buy food and other food products. It offers a wide variety of regional dishes as well as fresh fish, vegetables and meat products.
